  1. Resolved Question: lithium withrawal?
  2. 20 May 2008 at 5:17pm
my wife is bi-polar and is on 900 mg of lithium in the AM and 1200 mg at HS, but has developed diabetes insipidus. Her DR is thinking to stop the lithium, so what can she expect in the way of withdrawal? She has a very sensitive system, so would it be better in the hospital for her to get off it? she also has pseudo-seizures and that leads her in a her Disassociative Identities. She also has Cerebral Palsy. Other meds are Depakote 500 mg tabs--3 tabs at HS..and Effexor 225mgin the AM...Klonopin .25 mg 2x daily as needed.

  3. Resolved Question: Diabetes insipidus and pregnancy?
  4. 14 May 2008 at 9:37pm
I was diagnosed with diabetes inspidus when I was about 3yrs old. I'm 20 now so DI has pretty much been a big (but routine) part of my life. Now that I am sexually active, I've wondered if there are things about sex/pregnancy I should consider because I have DI... like whether or not it's even advisable that I have kids in the future, etc. I know I should probably ask a doctor about this, but I thought I'd get a public opinion first. It's less formal =) Diabetes insipidus has nothing to do with diabetes. Diabetes insipidus causes my body to not retain water. So if I don't take my medication, whatever fluids I drink will be flushed out of my system within 30min-1hr.

When he was only a few months old he was diagnosed with Diabetes Insipidus, witch is a water based diabetes. At the age of 2 I noticed that one of his eyes were starting to cross. I took him into a eye specialist, and that is when I got hit with the bomb that my son had lost his vision. It almost seemed like it happened over night. Before then he was eating everything I fed him...even wanting from my plate! Now he wont have anything to do with any type of food I have tried everything. His doctor put him on pediasure, and thats how he gets his nutrition.

  33. Resolved Question: Will you still grow with diabetes insipidus?
  34. 5 Mar 2008 at 11:35am
I damaged my Pituitary gland, and the doctor told me it was considered diabetes insipidus. Now I have to take DDAVP nose spray everyday. All that happens is a drink more, and use the bathroom more if I don't take the nosespray. I was wondering since it has to do with the pituitary gland will it affect my growth? Does the medicine correct it, and allow me to continue to grow? No I don't just drink more, and use the bathroom more. I was saying thats what happens if I don't take the nose spray. What I am asking is if I take the nose spray will the condition affect my growth? Like my height? I'm only 15.

  44. 28 Jan 2008 at 11:34am
Not just in the way it develops, but in the way it's treated. And it's not just those two. There is type 1, type 2, gestational ... and that's just diabetes MELLITUS! There's also a diabetes insipidus that doesn't have anything to do with blood sugar levels. It drives me crazy for someone to ask a diabetes related question and not specify which type. Maybe I'm taking this too seriously, but when I come here I come because I want to help (and to learn) and it's impossible when people do not include these basic details. 10 points goes to whoever can give the differences between type 1 and type 2, accurately and in detail. Sorry for the rant, thanks for listening :D Mr Peachy, I am so disappointed in you. The definition of 'diabetes' has nothing to do with blood sugar. You would have known that if you had even read my question to the end. http://www.medterms.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=11148 Actually I don't know all the 50 states' capitals anymore. But that doesn't effect anyone's health. And if I were in the geography section and 10 people per day came there and said that the capital of California was Las Vegas, you would see me post a similar rant there. daeve930, absolutely right. I met a young, very thin woman with type 2 who had never been heavy. It does happen, some can't avoid it. I feel for you. And Word Nerd ... thank you for sympathizing with me. That did make me feel a bit better :o) Actually I did want you to bore me, but I don't blame you for not wanting to strain your fingers. This question will be buried in a day and it won't make a difference.

  45. Resolved Question: How come I dont see results? Is my DI affecting it?
  46. 16 Jan 2008 at 8:31pm
So I have recently started working out. a week ago i think. And i've been eating a lot healthier and cut out my sweets. But I still seem to be gaining weight. All I do is the elliptical for 45 minutes because i am pressed for time. I have Diabetes Insipidus and am taking desmopressin which helps me retain water to stay hydrated. For some reason I went down from 150 to 130 and back up to 138..(I'm 5'7"). Is this because when you workout you tend to retain more water, so it's adding on to what i currently have? Or what is it. It certainly can't be muscle because I haven't been working out that long. It's really frustrating. And it all seems to be in my stomach area, i used to have a flat stomach but not anymore and it all happened so quickly. Please tell me this isn't the freshman 15 :(

  52. 8 Dec 2007 at 4:12pm
I have diabetes, and I'm fine. He has type one, I have Insipidus....I pee every ten-twenty minutes and drink something every five-ten minutes. There's no big deal really, haha. I haven't found a right way to manage it without getting sick, I said I have INSIPIDUS, that's when you pee/drink a lot and it comes out clear, not yellow. xP Type 1 is when you need sugar, not when you need to drink and wake up 38975234348 times at night to pee/drink something. So yeah And also my diabetes stoped me from growing, I'm only 4'11... I'm also older than Nick.... HAHA, I am not jealous of a boy..... xP

  59. Resolved Question: Has anyone had success with treating diabetes insipidus?
  60. 11 Nov 2007 at 1:04pm
Understand this is not diabetes it has many symptoms of diabetes but the sugar level is fine and does not change. But the dog will have many symtoms of diabetes like overdrinking of water. The water is not absorbed it just passes through so fast that the dog stays dehydrated. We have her on an antiduretic medication, ketaconazole, Sam E , We still have to take her water away from her occasionally to keep her from overdrinking and spitting it back up. X-rays have shown a enlarged adrenal gland and kidney. We just can't afford surgery to remove the adrenal gland and all the medications that will have to be given following the surgery to keep her going. We already spend nearly $175 a month on medicines now and we are not rich by any means. It puts a strain on us to put out this much.

  69. Resolved Question: Question about a medical condition?
  70. 30 Aug 2007 at 11:04pm
What would happen if a person with diabetes insipidus were to drink alcohol, like around 5-6 drinks. Would it be extremely unhealthy or perhaps even fatal for them, or would it probably just make them feel crappy for a day or two? Thanks! Oh, I also forgot to mention, If the person were to make sure they stayed plenty hydrated before and after drinking, and took some vitamins such as B12. Yes, i realize its unhealthy to drink to excess for anyone, but please consider the point of my question!

  71. Resolved Question: Diabetes????
  72. 28 Aug 2007 at 7:16am
If I'm 14 years old, not overweight, no history of diabetes in the family, consumed lots of sugar (I used to drink lots of coke), has primary diabetes symptoms of thirst and lots of urination and my urine is pretty colorless or pale. Could I have, type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, diabetes insipidus or nothing (I'm not entirely sure I my thirst is real or imagined, I'm also a hypochondriac). It could be diabetes type 1 because I'm still 14 and it is known as the juvenile diabetes or diabetes insipidus because my urine is pretty colorless/pale? I'm gonna see a doctor soon but in the meantime I need some answers.

He is only 6/12 and was diagnosed w/ diabetes insipidus last Ocotober and has been on Desmopressin the synthetic hormone in an eye drop form since Oct. He went from an active dog to a lifeless stuffed animal, he doesn't want to do anything he used to do. He is also on thyroid meds. He was just at the vet last month and all of his levels are normal. Does anyone know the side effects of desmopressin b.c. I think that is causing all of his terrible side effects. I just want my old dog back :( We have spent over $5,000 on Koby and this disorder. We get him tested every three months. We do not have any children yet so he is like our son and we will do anything it takes to get him back to his normal self.

  87. Resolved Question: Urine volume for 24 hr urine test in adult?
  88. 20 Apr 2007 at 6:04am
What is considered normal output for a 24 hour urine test? I just completed one and filled 2 and a half of the jugs that they provide. In fact, they initially gave me two jugs and I had to go pick up a third. I'm not exactly sure, but I think one jug holds 100 oz. They are the standard size jug that labs provide. Is 2.5 jugs of urine a lot in 24 hours? I drink a lot of water because I am always soooo thirsty. My doctor is testing me for something called pheochromocytomas, but I think I need worked up for diabetes insipidus.

  95. Resolved Question: Is it even possible to poison a person with salt?
  96. 1 Apr 2007 at 1:31pm
Some think not. http://www.msbp.com/forum/about969.html Just watch Casino Royal. Bond swallows salt water to get himself to throw up. If thats what happens when someone injests toxic amounts of salt, how can someone be poisined? Yet a couple in England spent 15 years in prison for this thoeoretically impossible deed before they were finally cured. http://www.daylife.com/story/07iW3RL3dCdFK/1?lead_article=101000000018149621 It seems like it was more likely the boy had a condition that prevented him from expelling normal levels of salt. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diabetes_insipidus Much of the fuel behind this case was from a now discredited former British paediatrician, Roy Meadow. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Meadow#Ian_and_Angela_Gay< >
