  36. 30 May 2008 at 1:09am
They like to pull pieces of hay out of their rack until they find one with the poofy thing on it. So there is a ton of hay everywhere. My area sucks and I have to drive 20 miles to get them hay, and sometimes they are still out. How can I get them to eat more? Should they be allowed to eat the hay that has been on their floor?

I got home from the store and in a matter of hours he had pulled up like a 4x4 inch section and it was gone. He seems to be ok and is poopin still but like one of my past questions stated... he is fluffing up his hair strange like.

  45. Resolved Question: What could be wrong with my guinea pig...teeth?
  46. 29 May 2008 at 11:32pm
Lately my pig has started puffing out his hair alot and is acting strange, franticly chewing on anything you put in the cage... I know its normal for them to chew but he seems almost desperate like, I guess its hard to explain. He used to fluff up when we would give him cold veggies from the fridge- obviously we stopped that about 2 months ago and now he gets just room temp stuff. But he seems to puff up frequently now and its not cold in here, its summer... in florida. He has wood block things to chew and we throw in a paper towel roll filled with goodies for him to chew every now and then, so my question is ....... Could it be his teeth making him behave this way? His bottom set of front teeth do seem a little longer than I remember but not curled or anything and from what I read their teeth never stop growing, so they have to chew to file them, have I not given the right stuff to chew?? Can someone please give me an approximate lenght that the teeth should be. Why does he puff up?

He was roughly 5 to 6 years old and i was playing with her one night and after i was done playing with her i put her in her bed then i went to sleep when i woke up in the morning she was laying on her side dead. She was fed on a regular base, she had her own guniea pig foor plus we gave her vetables like cucumber, lettuce, carrots, celery, banana, and apples on a ragular basis(not that much at once tho) and it just died for no reason. It wasnt showing any sign of being sick or anything. i wanna get another guniea pig but i want to see what went wrong first

  55. Resolved Question: Do chinchillas make good pets?
  56. 29 May 2008 at 9:56pm
I'm considering getting a chinchilla in the next year or so. How hard are they to care for? Are they social (like my pet rats)? Would it be best to get 2 chinchillas, or are they okay living alone? Do they fling their poo everywhere like Guinea pigs do? Do they make a lot of noise? The questions are endless.. I have read they're nocturnal which makes the great pet for me since I work overnights. Just any info would be great..especially if you could compare them to other rodents. I've had my share of hamsters, gerbils, mice and rats throughout my life and I don't want anything that'll act like a hamster, gerbil or mouse. I love the more intelligent ones like the rats. They're such cute fluffy animals I just want to pick one up and give it a hug everytime I see one in the pet store. No way am I getting a guinea pig.. my friends had two of them and they're the most anti-social, stinky rodents I've seen. I'd rather have one that wants attention and DOESN'T fling it's poo everywhere near it's cage.

  62. 29 May 2008 at 8:47pm
I have 3 guinea pigs, and one of my guinea pigs sneezes like mostley everyday. Everyone else seems fine but one of mine. I also heard 1 day she was like coughing a little bit. There are no other signs, other than the sneezing she is perfectly normal. She eats and drinks and plays with the other guinea pigs. There bedding is Aspen, I have used this bedding ever since I first brought home my guinea pigs

  67. Resolved Question: Guinea pig hair loss?
  68. 29 May 2008 at 6:25pm
I got my guinea pig a little over a year ago and I must admit that I'm not that observant, a few months after I had her I was giving her a hair cut and I noticed that she was missing her hair on her left side behind her front leg, the space was about three inches across and roughly in the shape of a circle. It never seemed to bother her and I figured that it was just some cork in the way her hair grew, its never soar and there arent any bite marks on her, but today I was cutting her hair again and I realized that the spot has spread to the middle of her back and is very large now, and another one is starting to begin on her right side in the same area. My parents are really cheap when it comes to my pets and i know they won't take her to the vet because she isnt theirs. She only eats romaine, celery, carrots, honey dew melon, and strawberries, ive tried everything i come across but she is a very picky eater. I put Vitamin C drops in her water cause that's important. please help! It isn't fleas, and im worried about her. please read this and think logically and not just say an answer that doesn't follow what ive posted. thank you. something I just thought of: she use to scream at me if she wanted more food, but lately she seems to scream at me all the time, I just figured that she was getting really spoiled because in the past she will still have food in her cage that is just a few hours old and if i give her another piece of celery or a carrot she would stop, plus like I mentioned before, she is really picky, but lately she seems to scream all the time for no reason. I feel so helpless. please help.

  74. 29 May 2008 at 4:48pm
Has there ever been a time in your life when you didn't take proper care of your pets for a couple of days!? Yes, I've cleaned my guinea pigs' cages within the last two weeks! All I meant was that I wasn't throughly washed it out and using vinegar on it! And about the fruits and vegetables, I make sure to give them at least some carrots every night, and make sure that they get something more every day or two! They had cucumber and red pepper just the day before I posted this! Do you think I'm insane!? Who would take an animal into their lives if they didn't plan to care for it!?!?!?!? I'm sorry if I sound snotty or anything, but I'm furious to think that anyone would even SUSPECT me of animal cruelty! And if anyone cares, I'm sure I'm not the first person in the world to make a mistake! Again, sorry if I'm being rude and hurt anyone's feelings, but I needed to vent. For the third time, I'm sorry!

  83. Resolved Question: Treatment for guinea pig mites (URGENT)?
  84. 29 May 2008 at 2:31pm
Hello, well first things first I think my 2 guinea pigs have mite, however my oldest one seems to be experiencing it more harshly than the other, he is an abyssinian guinea<--(my Eldest one) and I can see that his hair has goten alot shorter and it looks dry and fragile. My youngest one I can't see any change apart from that he scratches quite abit. The only problem is that my parents are in denile and don't won't to pay ANY money to go to the vet. So I really can't take them to the vet at all. My parents won't let me :@! I Love my guinea pigs sooo much and really don't want them to pass away (as I hear mange mites can be fatal) my youngest guiney ws always quite shy, but my eldest was always really bubbley and active. Now he just slouches around and sits in the corner. He chatters his teeth at me whenever I try and pick him up, and never purrs when i hold him. Hes had this condition for a couple of months now. It's not that bad but very notictable in one particular area. I noticted that his pain/discomfort was lessened alittle when I dabbed some Vasiline On the scab where he alwayz scrathes and bites. My friends said to try putting a plaster on it, to stop letting my guinea sctrach and bite it. Should I try this? I noticted that his pain/discomfort was lessened alittle when I dabbed some Vasiline On the scab where he alwayz scrathes and bites. My friends said to try putting a plaster on it, to stop letting my guinea sctrach and bite it. Should I try this?

  89. Resolved Question: are my guinea-pigs attention stickers ?
  90. 29 May 2008 at 12:39pm
that must sound mad, but my male and femail guinea-pig both bite the bars of the cage when they hear: *someone moving a bag * someone opening/closing the other pigs cage * the frige door opening * someone makeing food * the micorave and more but the guinea-pigs: * get out of the cage for 2 hours everyday * full bowls * veg/frut * time for cuddles * get to see each other * have loads of toys * play time outside cage/inside cage * fresh water * stuff to nibble on * time out in the garden/ loads of grass * more food * loads of hay * stuff to keep teeth down so looking above at all the points, why are my two guinea-pig biteing the bars now, they have everything they need when 1 guinea-pig hears the other biteing the bars the other joins in and i'm just thinking why do they do it? someone please help, i think i have 2 attention stickers

  91. Resolved Question: Baby Guinea Pig?
  92. 29 May 2008 at 12:34pm
Okay three weeks ago i got a guinea pig from a petstore. I believe she is around 4-6 weeks old. She is VERY hyper and enjoys running around her cage, i can hand feed her, but she still kind of runs away from me (avoids) my hand when reaching in to pick her up. Do you have any suggestions on how i can get her to trust me? Also, what age do guinea pigs "calm down" because she is VERY hyper right now!.. Thanks! If she runs around her cage and "popcorns" does that mean she is happy? She does that quite often too

  97. Resolved Question: Guinea pigs getting on with my rabbit...?
  98. 29 May 2008 at 11:19am
Recently, we've started putting our two female guinea pigs and my female rabbit out in the pen together outside. I understand that you really shouldn't home guinea pigs and rabbits together... but this isn't what I'm asking. Watching them, I've noticed that sandy grooms mostly Lily, but also Polka-dot. When its sunny, they lie down together in the shade. Sandy was born from our two previous rabbits, a lion head and a dwarf which were extremely tame and gentle. From the age she left her mother, we put her in with a newly bought baby guinea pig my brother had [6 years ago, my family and I did not have the experience or knowledge two know not to do so] Snowy [that guinea pig] died earlier this year =[ So here i am wondering... is it wrong that they should be put in together in the run? She is the gentlest rabbit I've had and acts motherly in the way that she grooms them and licks them. lily doesn't object, she lies there, with her eyes closing. I would like to know your opinions...? Yeah, i understand the kicking, and you do here some awful stories of the getting hurt! And yes i always watch them if their put together :]
