there are loads of over the counter products its all trial and error....im still trying after 15 yrs
so good luck with what ever you try hun
I tried one that warmed up. Same one? Mine was really comforting, moisterized and softened my skin, and worked! If yours warms up and it's the same one it is great!
Blue light therapy works. The blue light is just UV light. It kills the bacteria in your skin that causes acne. However, it does not remove scars.
A cheaper and just as effective alternative for blue light therapy is going to a tanning salon. Go to a tanning salon that has facial tanners built into the tanning beds. The light from the tanning bed is the same as the blue light therapy. If you have ever noticed, people that go to tanning salons do not have acne. Trust me, this works.
Some EMDR therapists uses alternately flashing lights on a bar shaped gizmo rather than physical movement of the finger from side to side as the stimuli source.
Here's a pic of what the therapist was probably referring to:

sunlight is nessasary for Vit d, mood and seratonin.
Which translates to nicer skin, better sleep and happier mood. This blue light therapy suppliments that when the natural stuff is not as available.
yes tanning will work for SAD. My doctor recommend it for me to do. But she told me she dose not recommend for all pts. Just don't over tan. be safe with it. good luck hun.
I also have bipolar and sad, so I know it's a doozy of a combination. I haven't tried the light boxes as I'm a dirt poor college student. I just wanted to say that I too have had decent luck with the compact florescent bulbs that emit a daylight spectrum of light.
This is the first winter I used them, and while they didn't totally banish my symptoms, my depression was much less intense and shorter lasting than is normal for me. This is especially remarkable considering that last fall I moved away from my support system to go to school, which would normally make things much much worse for me.
I hope this helps.

Many manufacturers produce photo-facial units for the purpose of rejuvenating the face with light. In many cases these units do produce positive results, such as improved blood circulation, lymphatic drainage and wrinkle reduction. There is one serious drawback to these devices, however. Most of them only produce red or infrared light. Red or infrared can be highly beneficial for some skin types, and can produce rapid symptomatic changes. It is not for everyone, however. Clients have markedly different skin types and bodily constitutions. Just as red light can rejuvenate some skin types, it can prematurely age others. This one-size-fits-all approach to facial rejuvenation is very limited, and can be dangerous.
Specialists in the field of chemical detoxification (such as Sherry Rogers, M.D. and William Rea, M.D.) have written extensively on the benefits of Far-Infrared-Sauna detoxification (called 'Depuration Therapy'). Recent research on chemically contaminated firefighters has confirmed clinical benefits.
For more detailed information, pick up a copy of Dr. Roger's book called 'Detoxify Or Die'. It is available at Amazon.com or from the publisher at 1-800-846-6687. She explains the treatment, its safety and benefits and sources of saunas. (I use a Far-Infrared Sauna from High Tech Health, Inc., 1-800-794-5355. You can call them for their research file on this type of therapy.)
Best wishes and good luck.
i have worked 12 hour nightshifts for going on 7 years now. once muddling thru the initial month or two it took to switch over, i'm ok with being awake all night. it's when i have my days off and have to switch back to being a daytime person, that i have trouble. anyways, try darkening your bedroom (blackout curtains etc) so you can sleep during the day, alot of us keep the tv on or a fan on while we sleep, to drown out the normal daytime noises (like traffic, construction, kids playing etc), if you live with others, you will probably have to warn them that if they wake you while you are sleeping that they could very well pay with their lives. it's also a good idea to take a 2-3 hour nap in the daytime before your first nightshift of the week. oh, and don't forget to pack a dinner in case the restaurants are closed in your town, at night. by the way, what is this lightbox of which you speak?
some people resort to sleeping pills, benadryl or herbal remedies to ensure getting sleep during the day. good luck!
Look up seasonal affective disorder. The results should tell you all about light therapy.

What kind of bulbs do light therapy lamps use? Is it anything you can buy in the hardware store?
Believe it or not, they are just grow bulbs. Yup, the ones they sell at the plant store. They mimic natural sunlight, but cost a heck of a lot less then the ones you buy for therapy use.
Yea I have this at home. It's very useful! I treat my face with it. Whenever I have blemishes i just point Bioptron on it and take 3 beeps (that's about 6 minutes) and it disappears over the night. Also I use it on my knees, cause of the sport activity I do. And it really helps. If u're able, get an oxygen water to. They sell it too. You can put it on you're face after Bioptron use,it freshens and stimulates your skin to breathe.
:)
no i haven't but, oddly enough, i looked that up earlier today on the web because i too am feeling depressed and grumpy. crymy!you could make a wooden box, line it with heavy aluminum foil, install the the little fixtures and wire, buy your bulbs on the web, or a lighting store (maybe ebay?) and plug that sucker up for as little as $30. that is, unless you are just not handy at all. i may do that this week. lol mate!
I found from my research into this issue that light did not have to be full-spectrum, just bright. If anything, blue light of I think it is 440 nanometers would be best, but I dunno if that study was replicated. blue LED xmas lights just happen to be the right wavelength, so you could make your own lightbox from a couple strands for $10 or so. google it to be sure that is the latest thinking, but that is what my brother did. I think I read this on bipolarworld.net on ask the doctor (he's a bipolar doc). You don't need the LED's to be as bright because the light is the perfect wavelength. PS aquarium shops used to sell bulbs at about this wavelength called actinic bulbs, to supplement metal halide. So this other person is probably talking about a newer version of this type of thing. But costly.
Otherwise, make sure the light is really bright. sit at a desk with a book you would read, then measure how far away a tilted light would be. then you need a light that is 10,000 lux at that disatnce. I used a sunray at a mental hospital. It was pretty good. Right now, i have a 400W metal halide light (like people use to grow orchids or pot) and that hangs over my head while I use my sewing machine. So then it is really bright everywhere, and I can do hobbies not just read.
Get your light online. it is much cheaper than at a medical supply store. it will be about $300. make sure there is a UV filter, or you could get eye damage.
